Issued or Partial Issued States: IL, KY, IN, OH, WV
Site: National Weather Force has issued a Winter Weather Watch effective for Wednesday evening until Thursday noon, January 19-20, 2022
Date Issued: 1/18/22 at 8:00 am Central
Forecast: A system moving through Arizona right now will ejected into the plains on Wednesday. Cold air in place along with a trough to the north will start snowfall along a front in Southern Illinois Wednesday evening. This will move east through the Northern half of KY and the southern sections of IN/OH and eventually into WV through the overnight hours into Thursday morning. It will be a quick but potent type system. Amounts are expected to be less than Winter Storm Warning criteria, but you will see your fair share of snowfall in the watch area.
A NWF Winter Weather Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for over 2+ inches of snowfall, but not up to warning level status. Furthermore, it is the alert that is issued before the final alert is issued, which is the ‘Winter Weather Advisory’, which will go out on Wednesday for the area, finalizing the forecast with snowfall numbers.
