Tornado Watch

Issued or Partial Issued States:  TX, LA, AR – Map inside shows affected state areas.

Site:  National Weather Force has issued a Tornado Watch effective today, May 5, 2022

Date:  5/5/22 at 8:15am Central Time

Forecast: A surface low currently in Southeastern Oklahoma will be the main driver of the activity today.  At the surface, dewpoints in the upper 60s and even 70s will be in the forecast.  Temperatures this afternoon/evening at or near 80.  This will push instability values to between 1500-2000 j k/g, which is more than enough for explosive severe thunderstorms.

Yesterday, storms waited till evening to develop.  However, this watch will be earlier, and we will see activity as early as noon or around there …

The in-house tornado risk model here at National Weather Force shows a small area of moderate dynamics that extends from Eastern Texas into the Southwest/Southern Arkansas forecast areas.  Widespread weak dynamics surround it, but NWF tornado watches never include weak dynamics for issuance as the most widespread event would be wind/hail threats in those zones, not a significant tornado risk …

Areas within it should prepare for tornadoes, strong at times, very large hail, and damaging winds in excess of 60+ mph along with a flood risk …
