National Weather Force has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch, effective this evening.
Zones affected: Eastern half of PA, Central and Northern New Jersey, Southeast New York, New York City, Western half of Long Island, all of CT, Northwest Rhode Island, All of Massachusetts, except Southeast sections, but does include Boston.
Discussion: A system out of the West is producing severe thunderstorms across West-Central Pennsylvania at the time of this issuance alert. This will continue to move to the east with strong upper divergence and developing instability. As this happens, a strong jet stream moving in will provide the needed lift for rapid severe thunderstorm development. This looks to aim New York City head on with severe thunderstorms, including a chance of a tornado.
In addition to the New York City wording, those in and around the watch area will have a hail, wind, and flood risk.
